Barn owls have successfully bred on our east wall every year since 2016—marking 2026 as our eleventh consecutive season, with twenty-four owlets fledged to date. This year’s first egg was laid on 29th April. Our custom conservation spaces also welcome resident kestrels, who nest between our dedicated garden box and the natural hollows of our historic black poplars. The surrounding grazing marshes, dykes, and garden boundaries of Manor Farm House provide an ideal habitat corridor for the Chinese Water Deer (Hydropotes inermis) . Lacking antlers but distinguished by their prominent canine tusks and large, rounded ears, these primitive cervids are highly adapted to riparian environments.
The wind turbine foundations were laid between 28 November and 1 December 2006, alongside the foundations for the house extension. The slideshow below shows the foundations being made and the turbine being installed and commissioned. The anchor point — a substantial concrete block to which the turbine is winched down for biennial maintenance — is also visible.
